Make your own Challenge List

You can make your own challenge list! It doesn’t have to be 400 experiences long, it could be 20 things that you have always wanted to achieve.

Close your eyes and think of something you have always wanted to do, it may be something really luxurious and indulging, or something that is really cheap, it may not even cost a thing, something you have to do by yourself, or as a large group. It could be exploring a new skill, discovering a new hobby, joining a club, getting out of your comfort zone, giving back to the community, cooking a new meal or bringing out your creative side.

My little sister (who was four years old at the time), always saw me talking about my Challenge List and how much fun it was so she asked me if I could help her write her own. After sitting and writing out her own list we managed to get to 86 different experiences that she wanted to do. It was so much fun writing it with her, we were laughing about all the things that she could do and how funny some of the experiences would be. Some of the things that she included were; see a unicorn, cook 10 cakes, make gingerbread men, write a story, and make a new friend when she starts school. The first thing that we ticked off her list was to make a berry pie which we made together on her 5th birthday, the excitement about ticking something off her Challenge List was the best thing EVER. She said it was the best berry pie she had eaten probably because she had been part of every step.

My brother (when he was ten years old) also decided that he wanted to write his own Challenge List and this took us about a week to write and when it was finally printed he was so excited because it was 300 experiences long!! He has so many amazing experiences on there that I want to add them to the Challenge List 2.0, the categories that he has included are; risk-taking, activities, craft, read, plant, film, discover, witness the unexpected, going outside, things to get, play, making food, eating food, new places to eat food, places to go, events, things to achieve, pay it forward and change the world. My brother’s Challenge List has so many interesting experiences that I cannot wait to see what he achieves!

Share your goals with friends

When I created my Challenge List it was a compromise to myself, it meant that I wasn’t going on a tour around Europe (don’t get me wrong I still want to go to Europe but that’s for another day). Instead, I wanted to stay local and experience local and the adventures that it would bring with it, life skills. When I told people initially about the Challenge List they all thought it was a crazy idea and it was going to cost a lot of money and time, which with my list of challenges it did both but I wouldn’t change what I did for the world. Once I started ticking things off and other people saw what I was trying to achieve it opened their eyes of what the ultimate goal for me was.

Now that I have shared my experiences with others and they have seen what can be achieved, I have inspired others to create their own Challenge List. This is where I realised that it needs to be shared so that others can achieve their goals and the people around them can support them.

Those that share their goals with friends or family have a greater likelihood of achieving them. Maybe that’s why I tell everyone I meet about my Challenge List…

Stop making excuses and say yes

If money is an issue, put a small amount away each week, even if its $1 a day you will have $365 at the end of the year, or $10 a week will get you $520. These small contributions can all help you towards achieving your goals.

If time is an issue, everyone on this planet gets the same amount of time every day it just depends on how you choose to spend your time. Even with how busy I used to be with four jobs, volunteer services, studying and having five younger siblings. I always make time for myself to achieve my goals.

I would not have been able to achieve as much as I did if I chose not to challenge myself, so always say yes because you never know where your experiences will take you…

What are your goals?

Think about what you want to achieve, in terms of long term or short term goals, what is your ultimate goal. If you create a challenge list what do you believe you will get out of it.

No matter how big or small your goals are they can always be achieved, you have support around you that can help you with your challenges.

What has changed for me since I made the Challenge List?

For me, so much has changed since I began writing the Challenge List in April 2017, I have become more confident, I strive for achievement and more challenges, find enjoyment in the little things in life, passionate about the environment, I have met so many new people, inspired others, I am making a difference, joined several clubs, volunteer in my local community which has given me a sense of pride and belonging, I have the confidence to solo travel, become a leader, been given so many opportunities I would have otherwise only dreamed of and had countless memorable moments.

These are just some of the things that the Challenge List has helped me achieve, what will it do for you?
