Where?

Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, Australia

Why is this experience on the Challenge List?

“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” – John Muir

Description:

I spontaneously joined a friend on their road trip around Tasmania and we decided that whilst driving through the West Coast to go to Cradle Mountain. We arrived at the office and bought our pass to enter the national park and then one of the park rangers showed us the route to take for the time of day that it was and we walked out ready to start our journey. We walked and I am not someone that enjoys hills, it just does not agree with me fortunately for me the path that we were directed to take was actually fairly flat with only slight inclines. We did have to go up at some points but we also got to go down on other parts of the trails. What we saw along the paths of the surroundings were everything that I could have hoped for and more.

With that iconic cradle and even the boat shed in the view, everything was spectacularly beautiful for us that day. The hike was around the surrounding mountain ranges and lakes, I am grateful for what I saw that day reflected in the beauty of Tassie.

Would I do it again?

“The longest journey begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu

Hiking really is wonderful and makes it a more exciting way to experience the rugged terrain. There are many other places that I would like to explore and hiking is one of the best (and sometimes the only) ways to get there.

Highlight:

The spectacular views that were surrounding us the entire time whilst we were hiking. Nothing else has compared to what I saw that day when I was hiking at Cradle Mountain.

Something funny when we were at the top of the mountain my friend and I were trying to take a selfie but have you ever tried to do that at the top of the mountain, the wind blowing, the sun glaring and hair flapping everywhere. It does make for some pretty memorable photos!

Cost:

Icon Daily Pass which includes the shuttle bus service and only the pass to go to Cradle Mountain is $25 for an adult entry.

Further information:

Cradle Mountain is a must-see place and I would highly recommend visiting it and venturing out on one or many of the walking tracks.

Plan ahead, make sure you have snacks and plenty of water on your hiking trip.

Please keep in mind whilst you are travelling anywhere but particularly in National Parks about Leave no trace, as this helps to preserve these pristine places for everyone to visit.
