Why is this experience on the Challenge List?
I had seen bits and pieces of the Marvel superhero movies over the years but by deliberately putting this on the list as a challenge it meant that I had to watch every single one of them in order to gain a deeper understanding of the Marvel cinematic universe.
Description:
The Marvel cinematic universe has taken just over 10 years to release the 23 movies that have shaped this universe. I have been following along this journey and going to the cinemas to watch Thor, Spider-man: Homecoming, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity war. One of the hardest things about this challenge was figuring out which order to watch them in chronological order or release order. I found this image put together by Smallzy's Surgery and began watching the movies from the beginning in the order that follows:
From the moment that I put this on my Challenge List to when I completed it, this challenge actually took me several attempts of watching the movies in a random order as a movie would be released at the cinemas and I hadn’t seen the previous movie leading up to this one.
The only way I finally got through this challenge was to follow the above order and then I was able to cross them off as I watched them. Eventually, it worked and I finished all 23 Marvel movies.
Would I do it again?
It takes around 50 hours or just over 3,000 minutes, to watch the entire 23 movies of the Marvel cinematic universe… It was a lot to do it once, to be honest, I loved the series but I do believe if I was going to watch it all again I would probably just pick my favourites although in saying that it’s really hard to even do that!!
Highlight:
I have a bit of a funny story that would have to be the highlight of the series for me. I went to the drive-ins to watch Avengers: Infinity War with a group of friends, everyone was excited to watch the movie as it had been years in the making to get to this movie. The thing was I had just worked a really long week at work, it was late, the car was worm and cozy and the movie was too long… I fell asleep, I actually don’t understand how I fell asleep it was right in the middle of the final battle scene so it would have been quite loud. Anyways as just as all caring friends are they woke me up, but the thing about this was that it wasn’t just a few seconds later it was about 1o minutes and I woke up at the exact moment when Thanos clicked his fingers… I had no idea what happened but it ruined the movie for me, it probably would have just been better to sleep through to the end but instead, the ending was spoiled. It actually took me two years to rewatch the movie when I was finally watching the cinematic universe from beginning to end that I finally understood what happened.
Another highlight for me was because there were so many movies I got to watch them with so many people and share those memories with those people now as well.
Here are some of my favourite quotes from the movies below:
Cost:
For me the cost varied as I went to the movies to view some and others I have on DVD and some I watched on Disney+. It really depends on how you would like to watch the series, box set or stream via a streaming service such as Disney+.
Further information:
It is well worth watching all of the movies in sequential order to gain a deeper understanding of what, why and how things actually happened.
If you don’t already know, at the end of each marvel movie there is an “Easter egg” after the credits and it contains clues about the next movie, good luck that was always one of my favourite parts of the movie. Some are clues to set the tone for the next and up and coming movie and some are just funny extra scenes.
