Why is this experience on the Challenge List?
I remember when I was in primary school we first discovered stop motion on the Apple Mac laptops and we had to do a project on stop motion using clay which was inspired by Wallace & Gromit, which is really clever in the way that it is created. So I wanted to do another experience like that and then I found this video and it gave me the idea that I could do stop motion with Lego as well.
Description:
About a year before I achieved this experience I had my brother and cousin help me with putting the car together but unfortunately we got half way through the build and then couldn’t build it any further because it got too late.
So in June 2020, I got out the kit and set up on a cardboard box which I even had my camera sitting on a cardboard box to hold it in place -acting as a tripod. I followed the Lego instructions all the way through and managed to get the whole build done in two hours, 114 photos and the final result was a 34 second video.

Would I do it again?
I have been able to do it again for a university assignment and just used things from around the house. It was greatand I had to be creative about it as it wasn’t like the Lego where there was a set structure, so I had to tell a story with the items.
It’s painstakingly slow but the reward of watching the final video was amazing, I loved it!!
Highlight:
When I showed my brother and sister for the first time they asked who made it and their jaws dropped when I said that I did because they just thought it was another YouTube video!!!
Cost:
The Lego kit cost $30 but really you could use anything to make it cheaper. For a uni assignment about sustainability I created a few short videos, one with toilet rolls, childrens wipes, zip lock bags and reusable fruit and vegetable bags.
Heres the Zip lock and sultana video:, from a sustainable point of view it shows that using zip lock bags will continue to add up and there will be a lot of rubbish but using a container it is reusable and creates less rubbish.

Further information:
There are plenty of stop motion videos around on the internet to get inspriation from. It is worth giving it a go, just need a camera, sometimes having a program to put it all together can make it easier, I just use my own camera which has the stop motion video function already on it.
