Where?
Bondi Beach, New South Wales, Australia
Why is this experience on the Challenge List?
Considering Australia is surrounded in surf coasts and every summer since I was little I have been to the beach at least once if not more. There at the beach is always multitudes of people surfing, I would love to have that same experience of gliding over the waves it just looks like so much fun.
Description:
I was in Sydney with a few hours spare wondering what I should be doing when I decided that I would go and get some surfing lessons at Bondi Beach. Why not get lessons at one of the most famous beaches in Australia!
I booked the lesson through Lets go surfing only a few hours before it started. Once at the shop, you are fitted into a wet suit and given a board. Everyone then brings their board down along the sand where we run through safety and the basics of surfing.
Once we were out on the water, it was great getting that rush of swimming in the water and experiencing what it could have been like to catch a wave. The instructors helped me to catch some waves and I tried standing up or even getting to my knees on the board but I couldn’t even manage that.
I fell off quite a few times but it was still fun! One person in the group did manage to stand up which was amazing to see, that someone was able to do it.
Would I do it again?
Yes, I would do it again except possibly go to a surfing school because then I can do an all day session or do sessions over a few weeks so then I can build up my experience.
Highlight:
Landing in the water so many times (awkwardly), I couldn’t help but laugh! I’m sure someone would have been watching on the shore finding it funny
Cost:
I bought a group lesson for $119
Further information:
Lets go surfing runs group sessions with no more than 5 people in a group and they take photos for you as well that you can purchase.
