Why is this experience on the Challenge List?
I wanted to learn how to make Sushi because well Sushi is such a healthy meal that it would be nice to learn how to make it from scratch and replicate it at home with fresh ingredients.
Description:
With the kit that I purchased, an extra six sushi rolls, avacado, carrot, cucumber and tuna I went home ready to get started. I started by boiling the rice, then julienning the carrots and avacado, thinly slicing the avcado and then draining the tuna. I laid out the sushi rolls on the mat and waited for the rice to boil. When that finished I added the sushi seasoning powder on the rice and waited for to cool. Then came the fun part…
I added the rice to the sushi roll then layered the cucumber, carrot, avcado and tuna and started rolling.
When it was rolled it, I couldnt help but eat them straight away. They looked so yummy and I couldn’t believe it was that easy.
Would I do it again?
Of course, it was so much easier than I thought and just made me want to do it again!
I haven’t done it recently but in July 2020 I did it again with my family and they all realised again how easy it was and we want to make it more regular, yay!!
Highlight:
As I was doing it at home, my siblings were at home with me and they were able to make their own sushi rolls. They also couldn’t help but notice how easy it was to make the sushi and they were able to make whatever flavour they wanted which I believe they enjoyed the most. Sushi is one of their favourite foods as a treat whenever they go out, so being able to make it at home they were absolutely estatic!!
Cost:
I bought a Sushi kit from Coles for $11.60, it came with everything I needed including instructions and a bamboo mat.
Extra six sushi rolls and toppings for the carrot, cucumber, avacado and tuna cost under $10.
Further information:
Sushi has been around for quite a while and there are so many different versions now available that you can experiment with your own toppings. Recently we made satay chicken and Mongolian lamb with the vegie toppings, it was amazing! Have your own go at experimenting with flavours, you may find a new favourite flavour…
