Where?
Easterly point in Australia – Byron Bay, Australia
Why is this experience on the Challenge List?
Many people that think of Australia would have heard of Byron Bay, so I wanted to check out Byron Bay for myself and walk along the most Easterly point in Australia.
Description:
When I was in the Gold Coast with my family for a holiday over Easter, I decided to stay on holiday for a few extra days and catch a bus to Byron Bay. By bus it took about an hour and a half, although it is a little less by car.
Once I was there I checked into the YHA and then stared exploring the town. There was so much going on and I loved it, I went and explored the beach for a while and then got dinner. Afterwards I went walking around the town and lots of buskers performing on the street, which I listened to quite a few perform before turning in that night.
The following day I met some people from the YHA and I went exploring around the town and I was convinced into booking a spontaneous snorkelling trip for the next day and I am so glad I did.
The next day I was up early for the snorkelling tour and that was incredible, I got to swim with sharks!! You can read more about it here.
Following on from the snorkelling trip I met with a friend from the YHA and we drove to the Byron Bay Lighthouse which leads to the most Easterly point. First we went for a tour around the lighthouse, this was free and run by volunteers. They gave us a tour to the top of the lighthouse and the history of the lighthouse.
Afterwards we walked down to the bottom of the hill and found it… The point that is the most Easterly point in Australia, well the view was incredible. We found a comfortable spot and ended up waiting with quite a lot of people to watch the sunset, the aray of coulours for that sunset was stunning and worth the wait. There are some photos of it below.
Would I do it again?
Byron Bay is such a unique place, that I really feel has something for everyone and the view that can be seen from the most Easterly point was just incredible, especially during a sunset!
Highlight:
Being at the most Easterly point and as I was watching the sun set some dolphins just started jumping out of the water in front of me!
Also the vibe that Byron Bay offers is unique, the food is incredible, it has that beach atmosphere about it which just makes everyone friendly and there is so many talented buskers that perform every night.
Cost:
The cost would depend on where you are coming from to visit Byron Bay – depending on flights, buses or car costs. When in Byron Bay you can walk from the centre of town to the most Easterly point in Australia.
Further information:
Whilst there just walk the streets, Byron Bay has such a unique atmosphere and it is easy to get caught up in the light heartedness of the people there. The food is divine and most places serve organic food. Byron Bay is home of the origanal Byron Bay cookies and they are simply delicious.
