Why is this experience on the Challenge List?

I love the concept of upcycling, gathering all those pieces together its like a scavenger hunt and then turn the 'rubbish' into a new treasure. Upcycling is a great way to minimise waste!

Description:

One day when I was looking after my little sister, whilst watching Moana for the 100th time we decided to be ambitious and make our very own Moana boat. What started as a great idea and my sister keen to help, well it didn’t end like that let’s just say it took me all day to make, running into my grandparent’s place to help rescue the ever falling flag and my sister not wanting to help anymore because the movie was better!

When we started we didn’t intend to only use recycled materials, but I am so glad it turned out that way, it made our boat unique and gave it character. The pieces that we used was; icy pole sticks, bamboo sticks, a wipe and cardboard.

We are so proud of the finished product that it is displayed as a prized item on the shelf.

Would I do it again?

Of course, it’s amazing to see what you can create through upcycling of random items. I would love to see what else can be created from items out of the recycle bin.

Highlight:

Once the boat was finished and I went to show my sister the finished product and her eyes went to wide, she fell in love with it instantly. She grabbed the boat and busied herself in creating the water with tissue paper (leftover from a recent present) and made Moana from a cork. She still plays with it today, so for me, it made it all worth it!!

Cost:

To make the Moana boat it didn’t cost anything, all resources I was able to find around my house!
