Why is this experience on the Challenge List?

I actually have not been able to finish a colour in since I was in primary school, so I put it on the Challenge List because now as an adult I want to achieve finishing an entire colour in.

Description:

The thing that I find about colouring in is that I can never seem to pick the colours, it’s too hard and that is why colouring can be really tricky! Once I’m on a roll I find that I can just keep going because it is relaxing.

So when I saw the jungle colour in I had to buy it. As I knew when I finished it that it would be an achievement, although when I started colouring it in I did believe that I was a little too ambitious attempting to colour a one metre picture…

When I got the picture I was really keen to do the whole picture and started straight away with the elephants and some leaves around them and then the giant leaf. By that stage, I started to realise how big this picture really was and I left it.

It wasn’t until a friend at work was talking about how before they go bed every night they do 30 minutes of colouring to relax them, that I decided to continue with my own colouring in. The first two months I was getting through a fair amount and I managed to get the entire right side of the picture completed (except the animals as I was saving them for last to diversify the coulours).

Then I put it away again because it was taking too long but a few months later I was looking at ticking something off my Challenge List and I remembered that I was halfway through the colouring. This was the moment I decided to finish the colour in finally. So in the space of a week, I managed to completely finish the rest of the colour in.

Some parts I may have cheated and researched (either phoning a friend or asking Google) with the birds and the tiger for colours but I love the birds they really stand out so I am glad that I got some inspiration.

Would I do it again?

I would do it again, although next time I wouldn’t have it as such a large colour in and just focus on a smaller colouring in detail.

Highlight:

One of the best parts was the reaction of when I showed my younger brother and sister the colour in when I was only half done and they thought it looked so good. They ended up pulling out the second picture in the pack, stretching it across the entire table they each were able to have a side to colour in. It was great to be able to share this experience with them.

Another highlight was because the friend at work that reintroduced me to colouring I was able to connect with them more talking about the colouring. Who would have known that a colouring in could be used in a way to connect and socialise with people.

I kept getting stuck with the colours so my little sister ended up helping me choose the colours and because of that she called herself “The colour master”. Some of colour combinations were amazing and they were colours that I would never think of putting together she is a little creative genius!

I am actually super proud of all the detail that I put in every aspect of the colour in and taking risks in playing around with colours, as all that time and effort paid off in the end!!

Cost:

I paid about $10 for the colour in paper at my local newsagents and it came in a two-pack.

Although a colour in book could be purchased for $5 at shops, if you can find some at op shops it would be even cheaper. Another option is just to Google colour in’s because there are so many choices that can be printed out.
